Dragonwilds Quest List, Order & Rewards
Follow every major Dragonwilds quest arc in order, find important starting points, understand prerequisites, and prioritise useful rewards.
Last updated: 2026-08-27
Dragonwilds quests introduce regions, bosses, skills, mounts, recipes, and useful base technology. The best order follows the regional power ladder while completing nearby secondary quests before leaving an area. This reduces backtracking without turning the playthrough into a rigid checklist.
This page is a spoiler-light quest hub. It names starting areas, progression gates, and important rewards without reproducing every puzzle answer or story reveal.
Recommended quest order
| Stage | Quest or arc | Region | Why complete it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | First Steps | Brynmoor | Establishes the tutorial route |
| 2 | Getting Started | Brynmoor | Water, shelter, Crafting Table, and survival basics |
| 3 | Ratcatcher | Brynmoor | Early combat and Cooking practice |
| 4 | Rune Mysteries | Brynmoor | Rune Altar, runes, Spellbook, and first skilling magic |
| 5 | Dragon Slayer arc | Brynmoor and Ghornfell | Main regional progression toward Velgar |
| 6 | Useful opening secondary quests | Brynmoor and Ghornfell | Recipes, equipment, lore, and regional completion |
| 7 | Withering Heights and Fellhollow arc | Fellhollow | Opens the region's main story and Imaru progression |
| 8 | The Wild Hunt | Fellhollow | Unlocks Terrorbird mount progression |
| 9 | Black Knight arc | Dowdun Reach | Advances mountain progression and the Black Knight Titan |
| 10 | Umbral Sands main arc | Umbral Sands | Moon Garou story, Fight Cave, and Fuzan |
| 11 | Icthlarin's Little Helper | Umbral Sands | Major desert secondary quest and rewards |
| 12 | The Great Body Robbery | Bloodblight Swamp | Club weapon and functional Pylon decoration |
Complete other secondary quests when they overlap the route. A quest that rewards a station, recipe, mount, or useful weapon is normally worth doing before a long material grind.
Tutorial quest walkthrough
First Steps
Follow the arrival sequence and speak with the Wise Old Man. The tutorial establishes the quest tracker and sends the player through basic survival interactions. Use this period to collect loose stone, plant materials, and food rather than racing directly between markers.
Getting Started
Gather water, build the requested Crafting Table, and craft the opening equipment. Place the first base near resources and a navigable route, but do not spend hours perfecting it before the regional systems are unlocked.
Ratcatcher
This early task teaches basic combat and food preparation. Practise short attack strings, leave stamina for defence, and cook the required food rather than entering later fights with the tutorial's empty supply line.
Rune Mysteries
Mine Rune Essence, build or use the required rune facility, and craft the requested runes. The reward introduces the Spellbook and Axtral Projection, demonstrating that skill magic is part of gathering progression rather than a separate mage-only system.
Brynmoor and Ghornfell quests
Dragon Slayer arc
The opening main story carries the character through Brynmoor and Ghornfell toward Velgar. Follow it alongside Bronze and Iron equipment progression, early vaults, and Lodestone discovery. Use the dedicated Dragon Slayer walkthrough for Cathan's trail, the Challenge Horn, and the final hand-in.
Do not rush the regional boss with tutorial supplies. Complete a coherent weapon and armour tier, collect nearby Sanguine Urns, and establish replaceable food. The boss order guide gives a spoiler-light preparation sequence.
Recommended secondary quests
Prioritise quests encountered naturally around settlements, ruins, and NPC routes, including:
- Restless Ghosts;
- Goblin Diplomacy;
- Granite Mauled;
- Heartstrings;
- Dog Days;
- Highlighting the Problem;
- other Journal-listed regional tasks found while gathering or opening vaults.
These quests are especially efficient when their objectives sit on the same route as a resource, Urn, Lodestone, or main-story step. Read the reward preview and finish recipes or equipment unlocks before grinding an inferior alternative.
Fellhollow quest order
Entering Fellhollow
After the opening Dragon Slayer progression, return to the Wise Old Man and follow the route into Withering Heights. Prepare for Wither exposure before exploring far from a cleansing point.
The Fellhollow arc introduces a new regional power tier, Farming, stronger enemies, and the path toward Imaru. Complete nearby side quests while establishing Steel, Green Dragonhide, or Splitbark equipment.
The Wild Hunt
Find Vannaka in Fellhollow and complete The Wild Hunt to unlock Terrorbird mount progression. Cosmetic mount variants or prompts do not replace this quest gate. Follow the mount guide for the difference between unlocking the riding system and collecting variants.
Finish the mount quest early enough that travel savings benefit the remainder of Fellhollow, Dowdun Reach, and Umbral Sands.
Dowdun Reach quest order
Dowdun Reach follows the Black Knight story through mountain fortifications, vaults, and Black Knight's Fortress toward the Black Knight Titan. Progress Mithril, Blue Dragonhide, or Mystic equipment alongside the arc rather than attempting every stronghold with Fellhollow leftovers. The Black Knight's Fortress walkthrough covers all 13 Dreaming Stone shards and the Gatekeeper.
Use secondary quests to reveal routes and regional context, but keep the main gate in view: defeating the Titan is part of the progression into Umbral Sands. Unlock Lodestones and place a small mountain outpost before repeated objective runs.
Umbral Sands quest order
The Umbral main story follows the desert's Moon Garou arc toward the Fight Cave and Fuzan. The region adds Sunscorch, quicksand, Adamant, Yew, Red Dragonhide, Infinity equipment, Magic Carpets, and several repeatable endgame activities.
A practical order is:
- establish water, shade, and a safe return point;
- begin the regional story and unlock settlements or quest hubs;
- craft or collect a coherent Umbral-tier loadout;
- complete required reputation and story steps;
- enter the Fight Cave;
- defeat Fuzan;
- return for advanced modes and Vestiges;
- unlock and farm the Nightmare Crucible when the build is stable.
The Fight Cave and Fuzan guide covers encounter preparation without spoiling the story.
Icthlarin's Little Helper
This desert secondary quest has Fight Cave and reputation requirements. Follow the dedicated Icthlarin's Little Helper guide for its starting conditions, preparation, and spoiler-light route.
Do not repeatedly search for the start before meeting the gates. Finish the regional main steps and raise the required local standing first.
The Great Body Robbery
Find Doctor Fenkenstrain in Bloodblight Swamp for the longest secondary quest released with 0.12.1. It rewards a distinctive club weapon and the Pylon, a functional buildable decoration that intercepts lightning strikes within its area.
The Pylon makes this quest particularly valuable for builders using storm-prone locations. See The Great Body Robbery walkthrough for the route and preparation.
Quest reward priorities
When several quests are available, use this order:
- Region or main-story gates.
- Skill, Spellbook, station, or mount unlocks.
- Functional building technology such as the Pylon.
- Weapons, armour recipes, and Vestiges that improve the active build.
- Lodestone-adjacent quests that reduce later travel.
- Decorations, lore, and completion goals.
This is not a judgment of story quality; it is the fastest progression order. Complete narrative favourites whenever you prefer.
Co-op quest progression
Quest state can be character-specific even when the world is shared. Before leaving an objective:
- confirm every player has the quest and current step;
- let each player interact with required items or NPCs;
- compare Journal updates after a boss or hand-in;
- avoid assuming the host's completion advanced the whole party;
- store unique quest items only after everyone confirms progress.
For a late-joining player, repeat prerequisite steps in order instead of carrying them directly to the latest boss. Missing an earlier unlock can make the next marker or reward unavailable.
If a quest will not progress
- Read the exact Journal objective and region.
- Confirm prerequisite quests and reputation.
- Speak to the starting NPC again with inventory space available.
- Clear nearby combat and interact once per character.
- Reload the world if the marker does not update.
- Check the current-version page and official known issues.
Avoid discarding quest items or editing save data as the first fix. Back up a dedicated server before any recovery attempt.
